    1. Trolling? The last sunset of the 20th century was a year later. Hint: the first year of the first century was the year 1. The first year of the 21st century was 2001.

      End of an era.

imagine a time that for more than a millennium is regarded as the “future” right there so close.

    3. It was an era where there was plenty of optimism and hope for the future. The internet was booming, and I just graduated from high school and about to embark a new chapter in my life in college. That night was the time where I partied the hardest for a New Year’s Eve celebration.

    4. I would argue there were several more happening. One, this is far from the international dateline and two, there is another year left in the century.

EDIT: To be clear, there are two different disciplines on how a century works. *Strict* says it’s 1-100 and *popular* says its 0-99. I tend to fall on the strict side. Also, I would argue that even if using the popular method the sunset in Los Angeles that took place three hours after this makes this not the last, and LA’s wasn’t the last either.

    5. I watched that sunset from my hotel room in Caesar’s Palace in downtown Las Vegas before strapping a pony keg to my back and going down to the Strip where they launched fireworks off every casino roof and we proceeded to party in the manner that Prince god damn intended for that year.

I had almost exactly the same view taking train from NJ into NYC for new years at Times Square. OP, you made me time travel.

The last sunset of the 20th century would have been a year later. Common misconception about calendars.

This was the “lemon yellow” Sun that Peral jam sang about. Now it’s the “run you off the road, LED” Sun

Earth been spinning on its axis and around the sun a billion times but this one single time was significant somehow

    10. Some people believe something big happened going into 2000. If you think about any time before 2000, every era was different and had its own personality. After 2000 it seems like everything is just repeating itself. It’s like reality continues to fold in on itself instead of create anything truly novel. Like we are living in a computer simulation ..

Idk how much I believe in the last part but it is interesting to wonder about as lately it really seems like memes and all of our culture is just kinda the same thing day after day, there’s no growth or evolution, that I see at least. The best new thing is pickle ball and that’s kinda just like tennis and ping pong had a baby. Whoop Dee doo. It seems like things are being exaggerated, but never really much different .. think sports, art. Everything is sensationalized ..

AI is going to change society as we know it very shortly here. It is slowly already taking over human roles. Fast food ordering .. home robots .. it’s happening, look around.
We’re ok with it because for some of us it’s convenient but think about how far it could go… I don’t mean to be a pessimist but, we can barely solve homelessness and we are comfortable with starting to put people out of more jobs ? Doesn’t add up to me

And extraterrestrials as another form of *intelligence* will be introduced to us sooner than later as well. Do your homework, we are an experiment species on earth. Ultimately souls of the universe, yes. But, I think the experiment on Earth is slowly drawing to an end .. or at least reaching the point of extreme transformation where only those who can learn to live harmoniously with the Earth will survive.

Before you criticize what I say I want you to ask yourself one question. How can we know where we are going if we still wonder so many things about our past. We act like we own the earth in all its entirety but there are parts of it (pyramids, megalith stone structures, monument star alignments) we still cannot explain..
How can you exert your rule, honestly, over what is still a mystery to you ?

What I say may be crazy, but isn’t it crazy the way we are living in relation to the Earth ? Treating it like an object for exploitation instead of the living being it is, who we should be sharing life with. It can only take so much .. there will reach a point where it, and maybe even *others* will intervene ..

This place is truly so unique .. I hope you see and wonder about it like I do
